How to Send Large Files Via Email – Sending messages can be done virtually by utilizing the various types of messaging services currently available.

The most popular from the past until now is the SMS service which can be done via cellphone devices.

The message sent will cost the sender a certain amount of credit, although you can also use the SMS quota purchased previously.

Unfortunately, this short message service can only send text messages. As the world of technology develops, it becomes more sophisticated, and we can send messages in the form of media files or other types of files via online chat applications.

Apart from using online chat applications, another alternative for sending messages virtually is using an email service.

There are many platforms that provide free email services that we can use, for example, the most famous is Gmail from Google.

This free email service from Google allows it to be accessed online via various types of devices, including Android phones.

We only need to install the Gmail application or access Gmail via a browser.

Meanwhile, to create a Gmail account, we only need to use our cellphone number and fill in our personal data.

Talking about the Gmail service, we can send messages in any form and format it. Be it sending text messages, images, videos, audio, documents, links, and so on.

However, for sending files in Gmail, there are file capacity limits that apply. The file size that can be sent via a Gmail account is only 25MB.

However, Google will perform file formatting and copying, so the available capacity for file attachments is only 12MB.

This of course makes it difficult for us to send large-capacity files via email.

No need to be confused, because below we have special tricks for sending large files.

Here’s an easy way to send large files via email (Gmail) that you can follow and apply.

How to Send Large Files Via Email

As we know, there are many types of free email services that you can use. Starting from Gmail, Hotmail, Mail.com, Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo Mail, AOL, and Zoho, to ProtonMail services.

Of the several email services mentioned, Google’s email service is the one that is more widely chosen and used. Apart from its complete features, Gmail also comes with a simple interface so it is easy to operate.

Even though it is free, there are several limitations that apply to several of the email platforms above, including the Gmail service.

One of the limitations is in terms of sending files, where there is a limit on the size of files that are allowed to be sent in it. As explained above, the maximum file size that can be sent via a Gmail account is only around 12MB.

However, there is a trick so that large files can be sent via Gmail, and what is certain is that this method is very easy to implement. The complete way to send large files via email on an Android cellphone is as follows:

1. Compress the files

The easiest step to send large files via Google email is to first compress the file. Doing this method will reduce the capacity of a file, but will not reduce the quality of the file.

For example, if the file you want to send is a video file with HD quality, the video quality will remain HD even though it has been compressed.

One way to compress files without reducing their quality is to change the format to ZIP or RAR. Here we can use a special application to change the file format into an archive file.

For example, an application called ZArchiver can be downloaded for free via the Google Play Store. There is also a premium version available if you want to enjoy the full features of the application.

All you have to do is compress the large files you want to send via email using the ZArchiver application. Change the format to ZIP or RAR, then the file size will automatically become lighter.

Make sure the size of the formatted file is no more than 12MB so it can be sent via Gmail.

2. Upload Files to the Cloud Storage Service

Sending large files via Gmail will usually be automatically integrated into Google Drive if the file size exceeds the service limits.

Later the file will be uploaded to your Google Drive account, then used as a file attachment in the email sent. So, when the recipient opens the file, they will be immediately directed to the Google Drive page.

However, sometimes by default file access permissions in Google Drive are sent in limited or restricted mode. This will prevent the recipient from accessing the file unless they have obtained access permission from the file owner.

For this reason, it is easier to upload large files first to your Google Drive account manually and set the access permissions to Public mode.

Then share the file by taking the share link, and sending it to the recipient via email. For the steps to do it yourself, namely:

Step 1. Upload Large Files on Google Drive

  1. Open the Google Drive application on your Android cellphone or access the Google Drive page via a browser.
  2. Make sure you have logged in using the correct Google account. Now on the main Google Drive page, click the Add icon in the bottom right corner of the display.
  3. There are several options that appear when you click on the Upload menu.
  4. Now you look for the large file you want to send via email. Wait for the file upload process to Google Drive to complete.
  5. If so, first refresh the Google Drive page by swiping the screen from top to bottom. Then look for the large file that was uploaded to Google Drive earlier.
  6. If you have found it, then click the Three Dots icon in the top right corner of the file display, then select Manage Access.
  7. Click Change under the Restricted option, then click the Restricted option again and click Who Has the Link.
  8. Return to the Manage Access page, then click the Chain icon to the right of the General Access option to copy the File Share Link.

Step 2. Send file share link via email

  1. Now you open the Gmail application or access it via a browser.
  2. Then click the Write menu / Pencil icon at the bottom right of the display.
  3. Fill in the destination email address in the To column, then fill in the email title in the Subject column.
  4. Next, fill in the message you want to send and paste the Share File link in the Write Email column.
  5. If so, now click Send or the Triangle icon at the top right of the display.
  6. That way, the email will be sent immediately along with the large file that has been used as a share link on Google Drive.
  7. Finished.

Note: Apart from Google Drive, you can also use other Cloud Storage services to upload large files. Be it, using MEGA, OneDrive, Dropbox, IDrive, and so on.

3. Split the file into several small files

The final way to send large files via email is by dividing the file into several parts. For example, the file you want to send is 50MB in size, then you can divide it into 4 to 5 files with smaller sizes.

It’s quite troublesome, but this method is quite effective for sending large files via email, especially via the Gmail service.

NOTE : THE METHOD ABOVE CAN ALSO BE APPLIED FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO SEND LARGE FILES VIA EMAIL SERVICES OTHER THAN GMAIL.
